Plane crashes
This graphic shows some facts about plane crashes - and the three worst in history. I don't think it works that well because the lack of a grid. And in my opinion it has too many words - instead of showing the three worst crashes, it just explains it with text.
Another thing that's a bit odd about this graphic is the fact that it's quite boring and purely functional except from the drawing of the plane. It is as if the plane and the rest of the graphic doesn't match.
The way of showing the statistics is also very familiar - and could have been done in a more creative way. But I do like the different informations presented - it's interesting to combine the number of crashes each year and the number of fatalities.
My CV
My idea with this way of showing my skills was to make it look like an old school paper - with childish colors and a yellow note - to make it different.
I like the three parts that shows my skills instead of just explaining it with words. They show my language skills, that I've lived in different countries - and that I already have a lot of job experience. I also like the yellow note because it draws attention and adds some of my other skills. But despite these four elements, the graphic has too many words. That's the problem when you need to show your experience in just one page.
The graphic looks quite familiar all together, but it has original parts - for example the use of a picture of a piece of paper as the background.
The Boston Robbery
This graphic is divided in two parts; One specifically about the robbery in Boston, and another on the top 5 art robberies in history. I like how they are displayed together without having much to do with one another.
I've used only few - and very calm colors - in order to keep it as simple as possible. That makes it more light than it would otherwise have been.
The idea was to show the events kind of like in a cartoon - which is a very familiar way of showing a sequence of events. But by adding the frames I've made it a bit more original.
I've created some kind of hierarchy by using arrows to guide the viewers eyes - without them it would have been too messy.
Unemployment in the EU
What I tried to do with this information graphic was to use the map of Europe to show that neighboring countries tend to be in the same range of unemployment. I used six different colors to show the level of unemployment to make it more detailed (in stead of only using 3 or 4 different colors).
The color range goes from deep red over orange and yellow to a bright green. These colors are very common to show where the situation is worst and where it's all right. The use of these common colors along with the map makes the graphic extremely familiar, and very, very little original.
I have drawn my own map of Europe using straight lines in order to make it more simple (without over simplifying it). It serves the purpose of making the graphic more light and easy to understand in few seconds.
It is a bit redundant because the same information is showed twice - both in the map and in to the right. But the oversight on the right side gives more details about each Member State and add the exact percentage for each state. Putting these informations inside the map would have made it confusing and chaotic. It also provide a list from the country with the highest percentage of unemployment and down to the worst.
I could have made it multidimensional by adding other informations about the unemployment rate in EU - for example the numbers for youth unemployment or the differences between men and women. But I wanted to keep it very simple and to focus on the divided Europe (from a green North to a red South).

Hi Rikke!!! I like very much your blog because I find very interesting the different sections you have created to explain your projects. However, I think that if you put more color can improve. Congratulations for your work, greetings :)!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Helena, thanks for your comment. I'm not sure if I now what you mean - where exactly should I add more color to improve it - in the information graphics or in the design of the blog?
ReplyDeleteHi Rikke, I like your CV project, I like the idea of the scool paper I think is very original and the colors you have used are very well chosed. I like the photo and the stik, it is really well done. Of what I am not sure is that I see it has too much letter , maybe if it has a little bit more of bur charts of some drawings It could be easier for me to grap my attention in your work!!
ReplyDeleteBut, anyway, I really like it, as well as the rest of projects you have done!
Thanks for your comment, Alicia. I agree with you that it has too much text compared to drawing - I guess I was too eager not to miss any of my work experiences. But the amount of text makes it rather dense.
DeleteHi, Rikke! I like your Plane crashes' infographic. I think the plane is quite original, but in contrast in my opinion you could find another way to explain the information, as bar charts are too familiar.
ReplyDeleteBut I think your information graphic is really good so I encourage you to follow in this way!
Thanks for your comment, Ariadna. I agree with you that the design of the plane doesn't fit with the rest of the graphic. The drawing is the only creative part of the graphic - which indeed uses very familiar tools as the charts. I created the plane to draw attention to the graphic, but additional drawings or a more original way of showing the numbers could make it more interesting to look at.
