About me and what this blog is about

My name is Rikke, I'm a 24 year old journalism student from Denmark. Right now I'm studying at Abat Oliba University in Barcelona, where I study "Graphic Design". 

Why this blog is called "Graphic relief": 

In movies the funny scenes between more serious ones are called "Comic relief". With this blog I've tried to give the same kind of comic relief amongst all the boring and serious information graphics with depressing statistics and confusing numbers. It's a graphic relief.

The goal of this blog:

Is to show that information graphics don't always have to be dense, complex graphs - but that they can reach out for a younger audience who wouldn't look at some graphic about the crisis in the European Union in the newspaper. My goal with this blog is to show that you through a bit of humor can get people's attention - also when your message isn't just a joke, but a serious matter.

Who is behind the graphics:

On the main page I post funny information graphics that I find on the Internet - and I analyze them using Alberto Cairo's "tension wheel" in order to understand why they are good/bad. In addition, I try to post some of my own attempts of making funny information graphics. Please comment on the posts and let me know what you think about my analysis and my own graphics. I try to select English graphics, but some of them are Danish - and then I translate them. My intention is to upload a graphic every day, because I think it is important for good blogs to be updated everyday in order to add value to the visitors and keep them coming back often.
